Fox Service Company Brings Natural Gas Fill Stations Home to Central Texas

AUSTIN, TX November 13 – Fox Service Company, the largest locally owned multi-trade service provider in Central Texas, is fueling natural gas vehicle adoption in Austin, Texas. The company is the region’s authorized dealer of Toronto, Ontario-based FuelMaker Inc.’s compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling stations.

Beginning in 2009, Austin residents and businesses will call Fox Service Company to get their very own FuelMaker Phill appliance capable of refueling CNG-powered fleets or personal vehicles from an existing natural gas line at home or at work.

In collaboration with Texas Gas Service Conservation Program, Fox Service Company is marketing the new FuelMaker’s refill stations to Austin homeowners and businesses seeking to adopt a cleaner fuel source. Until now, there has been only one CNG filling station in Austin that was available to the public.

“Using FuelMaker’s Phill, Central Texans can conveniently take advantage of all the benefits of CNG,” said George Stuckey, director of marketing and sales, Fox Service Company. “It’s an Austin-style solution for sustainability, lessening dependence on foreign oil and spending less at the pump.”

As an alternative fuel, CNG boasts an 80 percent average reduction in ozone-forming emissions compared to gasoline vehicles, according to the California Energy Commission.

Howdy Honda offers locals the Civic GX, the only exclusively clean-burning natural gas vehicle in the market today. At 200 and 220 miles between fill-ups, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates the Civic GX’s fuel costs to be $884 a year, compared to $1,987 for the gasoline-powered version.
While the average Phill station costs approximately $6,400 to $8,400 with installation, Texas Gas Service and the federal government offer rebates tallying $3,000.

Increasingly U.S. companies and local and state governments are flocking to convert their commercial fleets to CNG to save money and reduce environmental impact. In 2008, UPS ordered 300 CNG vehicles for its fleet to be delivered in 2009.
